•  Financial Aid

It will soon be time to fill out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) for college-bound seniors.  To be eligible for any type of financial aid, including student loans, the FAFSA must be filled out using the 2014 tax year information for the student and the parents.  Therefore, it cannot be completed until after January 1, 2015.  Students and parents may fill out the FAFSA on the Internet.  The FAFSA is available online at: www.fafsa.ed.gov

The FAFSA online is a quick way to send in the forms and helps to flag problem answers as they are entered on the computer.  The FAFSA is a free form and should not cost any money to file – be aware that other websites exist that have you fill out the FAFSA with them and pay a processing fee.  IT SHOULD BE FREE!  The FAFSA website also gives families a financial aid estimator in the FAFSA4Caster section.

We will host a FINANCIAL AID MEETING at Lisbon in the distance learning classroom on December 3rd at 6:30 p.m.  If you have a senior planning to attend college, please try to attend with your child!

Remember that many colleges have financial aid deadlines or priority dates by which they would like you to submit your FAFSA. Adhering to these deadlines may result in more financial aid awarded to the student. Some deadlines are as early as February 1st.

SUNY also hosts a Saturday program to help families fill out the FAFSA form under the help and direction of financial aid office staff.  The SUNY Financial Aid Day will be held at SUNY Canton this year on January 24, 2015.  Look for more information in the coming weeks at www.canton.edu.
